DON'T!!!!!!

Do not, I repeat, do not clean coins you suspect are valuable. If you clean a coin that is valuable, you can cut the value in half! If you do not know if a coin is valuable or not, ask me or post it on the forum.

For a valuable coin, you would want to have it professionaly cleaned.

For a common coin, such as a most wheat cents or and Mercury dimes, you can clean them at home. You do not want to use anything too abrasive and you do not want to polish the coin.

I hope this answers some cleaning questions! Very Happy

Has anyone ever tried cleaning coins with an ultra-sonic cleaner? I've been thinking of trying it. (Not a rare old coin - which I don't have anyway, just very dirty clad.) I see machines on ebay that aren't too expensive. They claim they're good for cleaning CD's and jewerly and stuff.

I used a rock tumbler last year. It was fun, but it took forever, was noisy, and one time the drum leaked.

AN ultrasonic cleaner is what jewlers use to clean Jewelry. Their is a tooth brush called Ultrasonic that claims it works like that. I have never used one though.
